Home schooling by the book is full-time job for mother of five

Edwards found AZ Virtual Academy, an Arizona online charter school that uses the curriculum of a company called K12, in 2006. Although K12 is a national company, it organizes its curriculum to fit Arizona Department of Education standards in language arts, math, science, history, music and art. The high school program offers more than 130 classes in core, elective, advanced placement and language courses.

The Edwards family uses two computers on loan from the academy and one of their own, and receives a partial reimbursement for their Internet costs. The academy supplies all textbooks, workbooks, math manipulatives, and science and art materials.

DUGOUT: Enright fooling Diamondbacks, opposing teams

Though pencilling Enright into a future rotation spot would be convenient, there’s no guarantee that he’ll continue retiring batters at such a strong pace. His arm might best serve as a long-relief option out of the bullpen in years to come.

Considering the current state of Arizona’s relief corps, Enright’s contributions, even from a lesser role, could make a world of difference for the Diamondbacks.

Andrew Kneeland is a student at the Arizona Virtual Academy. He is an intern at the Green Valley News.
